The Suunto Elementum Terra arrived in a discrete black cube, with just one word crafted on: “SUUNTO.” The one I received has black case, black rubber band, and positive face. The black case is stainless 316L, the typical “marine grade stainless steel,” and is very tasteful. From some distance it would appear like a stylish black G-Shock watch.

The fact is a colleague of mine made precisely this comment; nevertheless a good look shows its originality. The 41mm frame has 8 hex screws and its combination with the sapphire glass and the curved case remind me of the viewing port of an atmospheric scuba diving suit. In fact I do believe that here is the most beautiful characteristic of the watch, despite the fact that it appears like the bezel of a UTS model, the setup by Suunto appears to be outstanding.

One more distinctive feature of the watch could be the enormous crown pusher at two o’ clock, the one function that is shared between all the Elementum products.

Being larger than the simple pusher at three o’ clock, it really sticks out, adding a supplementary touch of different design culture. The crystal has yellowish circular and linear markings that determine the measurements taken under water. Both the yellow lines help to inform about the present and maximum depth, and also the dive time, while the round marking may be the analogue temperature scale.

Suunto Elementum Aqua operates in 2 modes: TIME and DIVE mode. The time function is simple, the hour and the mins are placed at the center of the display screen, while at the bottom of the display the date is discovered. Don’t ask about the reading of seconds, the main display lacks it, despite the empty higher part of the display that could give you the ideal area for this reading. The reason for this particular omission might be a shot to avoid the refreshing of the display each second and save some battery. The setup of the time requires pushing the crown for a few mere seconds. Then the time, date, and alarm set up is extremely easy by screwing the crown clockwise or anti-clockwise. Another useful characteristic of the watch is a button lock function, that is activated by pressing the 2 pushers simultaneously. Additionally, by pressing the center pusher firmly in any mode, the backlight is turned on.
